Kate The Great

The ice blonde punk rock haircut, overaccesorized, stiletto running and constant wearing of black all describe Fashion Icon Kate Lanphear.

Kate is the US Elle Style Director that has caused a fashion frenzy for the past year with her polarizing style. She is edgy, unassuming and chic all together. She's sparked many style copy cats in Paris, created a slew of followers in Japan, has a facebook page dedicated to all things her while simultaneously making US Elle a relevant/cool monthly fashion publication.

Kate is the edgiest editor New York has to offer. Her personal style can rival the editors of Vogue Paris, especially her accessories. She is definitely "One To Watch".

Sensational Sailor Stripes!

Sailor style stripes are simple, dynamic and pretty con-conformist.

It's a classic, timeless style that no matter the fashion trend will always be stylish. The typical french-sailor striped t-shirt or "la marinière” has this big power of being Summer Standout, and S/S 2011 makes no exception.

However, this year it's back again in multiple option's, from tanks, t-shirts, denim, shoe's, hats and even blazers. The myriad of options makes it easy for anyone to Salute Stripes this season. Jean Paul Gaultier even created a Nautical stripe residential interior design collection with FAB furniture design group Roche Boubois.

Sailor Stripe Style Tips

  • If you want to stick to the French look, pick only blue stripes against a white background

  • Make sure not to wear more than one single item sailor style at a time. You don't need to go for the overall look.

  • Sailor striped blouses can be easily be paired white jeans and ballet flats for a classic East Coast prep look.

  • A bag in the sailor stripes can add a bold bunch to a yellow dress.

  • For a weekend look, wear a sailor t-shirt with denim cut off shorts and a pair of converses

  • For a sensual look, wear a more loose “marinière" top off the shoulder with a satin align skirt and killer strappy stiletto sandals.

    ORIENT EXPRESS

China is one of my favorite countries due to it's great food, history, unique architecture and rich cultural history.

In honor of Chinese New Year, I'd like to focus on a mega fashion house that has been bitten by the Asian Fashion Flu: Louis Vuitton.

If fashion is a sickness, then Vuitton has the cure. Marc Jacobs presented his Spring/Summer 2011 collection for Louis Vuitton in Paris and there was no mistaken of the Chinese influence. LV’s hat tipped to the affluent Asian consumer with a strong acknowledgment of China's global fashion influence.

The collection is electrifying in bright colors of fuchsia, red, jade, purple, orange and of course, glitter. One can see Mr. Jacob’s genius of producing super light and super cool references even with plush velvets or shimmering fabrics. Paying homage to 1920s Shanghai, cheongsams and pandas were used in these gorgeous and wearable designs.

Celebrate China and Chinese New Year fashionably with Vuitton.
