TENNIS ANYONE?

Today marks the official start of the US Open.

Fashion, style and personality are just as important to US open athletes as their athletic abilities.

I immediately think of Locaste when discussing fashion and tennis. Locaste has built a successful fashion empire solely influenced by tennis and simultaneously created an iconic wardrobe staple: THE POLO.

2010 marks the 75th anniversary for Locaste and they are celebrating their birthday with a innovative video campaign depicting what the sport of tennis will evolve to by 2080.

What's most interesting about the video is that technology and performance are the primary focus with fashion being secondary. Locaste obviously believes that fashion must be functional and enhance a person's life in order to be relevant in the market place.

THE WHITE SHIRT

The button down white shirt is a staple in many of our closets, often being thought of as boring and practical.

However, the white shirt is anything but boring....its a classic, timeless piece that is
appropriate for any occasion.

Remember the following rules when selecting a white shirt:

1) You need options - Everyone should have at least 4 white shirts. Dress, Evening, Casual and Fun.
2) One Size Does NOT Fit All - Fit is everything. Focus on a tailored fit as your first shirt option as it will be appropriate for any occasion.

3) It's all in the details - Explore different collars, sleeve
lengths, silhouettes and materials.
4) Care - Read Labels and take to a trusted dry cleaner. When in doubt to preserve your favorite whites.

Check out the following stores and designers for the perfect White Shirt:

- Ann Fontaine
- GAP

- Neil Barret

- Alexander Wang
- THE ROW
- Tom Browne

- Thomas Pink

NARS THE GREAT

While Fall trend forecasting, I rediscovered an amazing coffee table book called 15x15 that celebrated NAR's 15th anniversary.

Francois Nars is a legendary artist using the human FACE as his canvas.

Several things are great about this book:
1) NARS photographed every image.
2) The images comprise of fashionista's, actresses, models and even famous fashion designers like Mark Jacobs.
3) The styling is amazing...each photo captures the essence and personality of each subject.
4) Each subject selected their product and color.
5) 1 subject for every year....15 subjects total.
6) Proceeds from the book go to each subjects charity of choice.

Edition's are still available which is amazing since they were limited in production.

HOORAY for HILFIGER

Tommy Hilfiger may have lost his fashion credibility but this Fall he is back to regain his throne with a new witty advertising campaign to coincide with his 25 anniverssary.

First, think American icons at its best: Tailgating, Dogs, Preppy Looks, Vintage Automobiles and a casual attitude.

Hilfiger's new advertising campaign captures all the above with a Royal Tenenbaum twist. Twisted and pretty are the best ways to describe the cast of models who create the fictional Hilfiger family. Bloody Mary-loving mummy, daddy, a parade of kids, including a son kicked out of boarding school, a Portuguese exchange student who never left, a mute daughter and two floppy-eared basset hounds gallivant in their Jeep Grand Wagoneer for what’s been dubbed “The Ultimate Tailgate.”

The fall campaign, photographed by Craig McDean and styled by Karl Templer is loaded with quirkiness and humor.

Look for the advertising campaign to launch in September Fashion magazines and get the back story on each cast member.

RIBBONS AND COLOR

I love when art has a deeper meaning and meaningful message with its audience.

Well an exhibit at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York does just that, where Brazilian artist Rivane Neuenschwander's Eu desejo o seu desejo / I Wish Your Wish (2003) exhibit is on display through September 19.

Walk by gallery walls that are lined with thousands of silk ribbons in every shade of the rainbow; each is printed with one of 60 wishes. The wishes are real and submitted by people from around the globe. The installation was based off a reciprocal-wish practice at the church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim in Salvador, Brazil. Belief has it that a wish is granted when the ribbon falls off.

Optimism and Positivity are always in Fashion.
